05:08 pm - Goodbye NaBloPoMo!

Today I'm finally getting rid of NaBloPoMo! It had become a burden to me, so I'm happy that it's over. I may repeat this experience in the future though. I just don't think I'll be doing it for two months in a row again, unless I'm very, very motivated.
Much to my readers' chagrin, I won't disappear from LJ. You'll still see me posting regularly at the Saint Seiya Superfics Journal. I should also update vane_authoress occasionally. And of course, I'll post to this LJ whenever I feel like doing it. ^^ music: "True" - Spandau Ballet

10:10 pm - I'm lucky, it seems A few days ago I told you I had signed up for a secret santa. Well, the draw took place this week and I've been pretty lucky. The person I got is relatively easy to please--in my eyes anyway. On the other hand, my poor secret friend is going to have a hard time. ^^UUU Or maybe not. This gift exchange has some nice rules; it's not hard to make the person you drew happy even when you're unfamiliar with his/her favourite fandoms.
I'm still waiting for another secret santa to be announced. So far, no news.
I could participate of a few more secret santas. For instance, there's a forum called Saint Seiya Dreams that has been running Saint Seiya Secret Santas since 2006 at least. I also know there's been at least one secret santa at the Saint Seiya Yaoi forum in 2005. I'd find many more events both inside and outside the Saint Seiya fandom if I took the time to search for them. ^^ But for now I'll stick to the ones I had previously fit into my schedule.
Speaking of my schedule, I still need to adjust some details before I can say I'm all set for this year's NaNoWriMo. And I already have some things in mind to keep myself in trouble busy after November. ^^

11:56 pm - I surrender Two days ago I mentioned I had started something I didn't want to talk about because I was yet to see how I'd react to it. Turns out two days were more than enough for me to come to a conclusion. So now I can reveal what's going on.
Well ... I surrender.
I knew I could have been making a mistake. I knew I could be wrong. Still, this wouldn't make me hurry up and do what I had to. Thus I delayed it for as long as I could. But now that I realised *they* had been right all along, I came here to admit it publicly.

11:26 pm - Another filler This is just another filler entry, so I don't lose this month's NaBloPoMo. I'm too busy to be able to come up with a decent post today.
Don't worry: next month I won't be doing NaBloPoMo, so your f-page won't be flooded by useless entries like this one. ;-)

11:31 pm - Misc LJ update - I didn't use to care for wireless phones ... until my parents bought one of those and we all got totally used to it. Alas, there seems to be something wrong with our device and we had to replace it. >.<
- I'm getting sick of this daily LJ updating thing. I'll probably drop NaBloPoMo for some months. There are days I simply don't want to write anything, and yet I find myself attached to this "duty." Sometimes it feels like a chore.
- This does *not* apply to the daily updates at the Saint Seiya Superfics Journal though. I'm glad to see the community alive and I'm determined to keep the members happy. *__* It's obvious that I won't be able to update it every single day of the year, but I'll continue to post new entries regularly. And since that is a community, not a personal LJ, all members are welcome to update it whenever they want.
- Today I started something I still don't want to talk about, because I'm yet to see how I'll react to it from now on. I'm just mentioning it because ... hmmm ... well, I don't know why. Just because I wanted to? ^^UUU
- And the old alphabet meme remains to be answered. *sighs* Why am I procrastinating so much? ¬¬

02:18 pm - I forgot it I had chosen a topic to blog about today, but I simply can't remember what it was. The only thing I know for sure is what I would *not* post today.
This isn't the first time it happens to me in recent days. I had planned to follow-up on a subject I'd written about, but had to cancel the entry because I could no longer remember what I wanted to write. I won't even mention what it is that I wanted to follow-up on, because this would only make the interested readers frustrated (and mad at me ^^UUU).

02:51 pm - I wanna sleep! I'd love to sleep for longer than usual, but my neighbours won't let me. Yesterday I was telling my sister we should find a house at the top of a mountain or on a similar place. This way we might find some peace. -___-
Lack of sleep has been affecting my memory. Well, it's been affecting everything. But I will survive ... I think.
By the way, I should be resting now. What the hell am I doing here?! Updating my LJ with an entry on insomnia won't help me fall asleep. ^^UUU

04:21 am - I got a subtle-yet-venomous message! XD I'm not famous in the Brazilian fanfiction world. However, in some forums and groups I'm known to be very strict when it comes to fanfiction quality. In fact, several years ago nemui_thesleepy and I wrote together an article (in Portuguese only) about a type of story that we called "soap opera fanfics" (a term coined by Nemui). It earned us a few applauses ... and a plethora of angry answers--typically on our back. XDDD
Yesterday I received a PM that was a late reaction to that article, although the sender didn't mention it directly.

11:10 pm - NaNoWriMo Meme This is a NaNoWriMo meme recommended by lilacfield:
When and how did you find out about NaNoWriMo? How did you go?
As far as I remember, it was in 2004, thanks to fate_ofthe_free. She dragged me into it in a most subtle manner; I just couldn't resist. Then I proceeded to write over 52k words.
How many times have you done NaNoWriMo?
There's been only one serious attempt so far (in 2004). And 3 or 4 non-serious attempts.
How many times have you won? If you haven’t won, what was your best result?
One time.
How did you go last year?
Well ... that was one of my non-serious attempts. I don't recall having written a single word. ^^U
Where do you write and with what do you write?
In my computer desk, with the comp's keyboard.
How do you find time to write?
I don't. ^^U
Are your partners, friends and family allies or enemies?
Mostly enemies, although they don't do this on purpose.
What are you strengths and what do you use to help you get to the end?
Errrr ... luck?
What are your weaknesses, obstacles and challenges that hinder you from finishing?
Laziness.
Do you plot/outline/plan or do you write by the seat of your pants? How much do you plot or how unprepared are you?
I like plotting and outlining, yes. I might say I'm about 50% unprepared though.
Do you participate in the real life community, go to write ins and meet ups in your area?
Nope.
What are your writing aids? Special snacks, music, totems, rewards or punishments?
None of those.
That must have been one of the most boring set of meme answers ever posted. -___-
BTW, I'm yet to answer that alphabet meme. I promise its responses will be a bit better. ^^U

09:33 pm - Just a filler This is just a filler entry, so I don't lose this month's NaBloPoMo. ^^UUU I'm really tired because I had to hurry up to meet a deadline. Therefore I won't be able to write long entries. Even my contribution to the NaNoWriMo 2009 Warm-Up series at stseiya_fanfics was shorter today.
I'm worried about NaBloPoMo, but so far I haven't had this LJ added to the official list of participants for October. Well, I'll do something about it after getting some rest. Right now all I want is to relax a bit. ^^

11:09 pm - Doing NaNoWriMo this year? I know not all fellows in my f-list are members of the community stseiya_fanfics. So I thought I should let you know that we're currently posting a NaNoWriMo 2009 Warm-Up series over there.

09:05 pm - Cat Photos: Abel During September, my f-list supported me while I posted news about my cat Abel's health condition. Thanks God, now he's healed (or so it seems). But I still hadn't shown you any photos of his.
Well, now I have 4 recent images to share with you! These cat photos were taken last week, and you'll notice that Abel looks quite sleepy in all of them. ^^
Enjoy!

10:55 pm - Secret santas, pet photos and memes Today I signed up for another secret santa. Just like the one we're running at stseiya_fanfics, it's a multifandom event. The difference is that it's been going on for years.
This year I had planned to take part in at least 4 secret santas. I gave up one of them because the organisers' behaviour was unacceptable; am participating of the ones I mentioned in the first paragraph; and haven't joined the remaining one just because it hasn't been announced yet. Anyway, I'm willing to join a few more if I have the chance.
On other news, my sister has finally sent me a few photos of our cat Abel. I'll try to publish them tomorrow, so you'll get to see him at last.
In fact, I have several photos of our pets to share with you. It's just that I either forget to upload them or get lazy and delay the task indefinitely. ^^UUUU
Ah, I haven't forgotten about that alphabet meme. I'm going to write about all of the topics you requested, I promise. BTW, feel free to grab more letters; there are many left.
I guess I'll be posting more memes in the days to come, although I'm particularly worried about the ones which require me to write drabbles, dialogues and the such. x__X
That's all for the moment. See you tomorrow!

10:17 pm - Alphabet meme: grab as many letters as you want! An alphabet meme suggested by Eve:
1. It begins with a list of all 26 letters of the alphabet. 2. Comment with something you want me to talk about that starts with one of those letters. 3. One topic per letter but you can grab as many letters as you want. 4. I will post a new post talking about all 26 topics given to me!

11:49 pm - Blog Action Day 2009 Today I'm taking a break from the memes because I'd like to draw your attention to a much more important subject: the Blog Action Day 2009, which is about climate change.
I've posted an entry about it at stseiya_fanfics: Blog Action Day: Climate Change + Fanfiction. As many of you guys are writers and/or fanfic readers, I invite you to read it and share your thoughts. If you know any fanfics about climate change, don't forget to post their links; I'm very interested. :-)

08:33 pm - WIP meme Meme recommended by Eve:
Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want). No context/explanations.
Problems: I have too many WIPs, plus almost all of them are in Portuguese. ^^U
I'm going to post below sentences taken from the only English WIPs I have. If anyone wants me to include sentences from pieces written in Portuguese as well (i. e., if you don't mind using Google Translate), let me know.
Alone in his bedroom, Yoshiki was doing the same he had done for the most part of that day: walking around circles.
"Mum, don't you say that! You're just perfect! I'm sure anyone would fall for you!," Kanon stated with conviction.
"WE ARE NOT CATHOLICS!!!!!! WE ADORE ATHENA!!!!!!"
He was bluntly pulled out from that sea of sensations as he felt his flesh being hurt for the first time in that evening by June's whip.

03:42 am - Chara meme This one has been suggested by Anita. ^^
It seems people must give me a character, so I can answer certain questions about him/her. The problem is: nobody has given me any charas. ^^U I'm going to post the questions below anyway. You, my dear readers, go ahead and give me charas from fandoms you know I'm familiar with.
Don't you know which fandoms I'm familiar with? Read on and you'll see.

08:22 pm - Meme recommendations I used to detest memes and avoid them as much as possible. But now--don't ask me why--I feel like answering a few ones.
Can anyone recommend me any interesting memes? Preferably related to fandoms, fanfiction and stuff like that. I'm also willing to take some personal ones though. They don't have to be new; feel free to recommend me those jurassic memes that are buried somewhere within your archives. ^^
You may also ask me to answer again the memes that you've already seen me taking, so you find out whether my views on various topics have changed or not.

10:33 pm - The polytheistic Christian I avoid certain topics here as much as possible. Religion is one of them. Politics is another one. Yet, as the title implies, today I will write about religion indeed.
For reasons unknown to myself, I feel this persistent attraction towards polytheism. Make no mistake: I'm happy to be a Christian (Spiritist, to be more precise). But if I wasn't glad with my spiritual choices, now I'd be a polytheist for sure.
In fact, had I known polytheism was still practised in our modern age, I might have followed that route before I could have gotten to know Spiritism better. I mean, I already knew about Hinduism, of course, so that had always been a possibility for me. However, the concept of Polytheistic Reconstructionism has ever looked more appealing to me; I just didn't know it existed officially. ^^UUU
I thought the desire to reconstruct ancient religions was just a delirium of my sick mind. Thanks to the Internet I've eventually learned that wasn't the case. I'm not "crazy" (though I'll be the first one to admit I'm quite eccentric); there are others like me out there, nurturing similar ideas and feelings.
Judging from my affinities and natural inclinations, I guess I could be quite into Hellenismos or Kemetism these days. And do you know what? Spiritism doesn't forbid me from practising other religions. It doesn't forbid me from anything, to tell you the truth.
Speaking of Spiritism: Aurore, was it you who once asked for more details about this topic? I'm pretty sure someone in my LJ f-list asked for more info on Spiritism a long, long time ago ... and I forgot to comply at that time. x____X Well, I hope it's not too late to fix that. ^^UUU

10:50 pm - A positive side to bad things My recent entries may have given some people the feeling that I'm currently depressed, disgusted at life or something to that effect. After all, I've been writing about lots of negative stuff lately. However, I'm doing fine.
Reflecting on unfortunate happenings is important to me. I could try and pretend that I'm living in a perfect world inhabited by perfect people, but I don't see the use in ignoring the reality. Obviously, I don't have to evoke sad memories all the time. Yet, there's always a positive side to bad things. They help you know yourself better. More importantly, they help you get to know those around you better as well.
When everything is all right, people may not show you their true colours. Adversities, on the other hand, often cause masks to fall off.
When I think about the unfortunate moments I've been through, I actually feel good about myself. Why? Because as painful (or annoying) as those experiences have been, they've taught me precious lessons which I can use to live a more balanced life.
This is one of the reasons why I'm glad to be 30 years old. The experience I've accumulated in the course of my (still-brief) life is an irreplaceable treasure. Nowadays I'm much better equipped to face problems. And I know things will only improve as the years go by. :-) music: "Lembra de Mim" - Ivan Lins

01:47 am - The other side: what was I talking about? I didn't remember I had posted The other side on my b-day. o.O Anyway, what I do remember is that some of my friends got a little concerned over that entry.
I really, really intended to clarify that matter ASAP, but alas I never did it. ^^U Well, I hope it's not too late, as I'm going to tell you what that entry meant right now!

10:09 pm - Subtle yet venomous messages Before I go on, here's my posting schedule for the next few days:
Tomorrow: Continuation of "The other side." DONE!
Friday: There's a positive side to bad things. DONE!
Saturday: Mixed religious feelings + a question for a friend. DONE!
Sorry, people. I had to post this list here because I'm too forgetful. ^^U I don't want to waste good entry ideas, plus there are topics I should've covered earlier and I can't delay them any longer.
Now, onto our actual subject:
The comments left on my previous entry made me realise I've left some interesting aspects of that topic out of my entry. Today I'm going to fix that. ( Read more... )

07:17 pm - How not to contact me 2 There's something I forgot to mention when I wrote How not to contact me, two days ago. It's about disrespectful or otherwise unfriendly messages.
All of us are prone to receive nasty messages from time to time. Some are predictable; others come from people (and for reasons) you'd never expect.
Strangely, some ladies and gentlemen think that just because they wrote us, they are automatically entitled to a prompt response, no matter how aggravating their attitudes have been. If we miss the "deadlines" they try to impose on us, they get mad. Then they either follow-up with even nastier words, or wear the victim hat and try to make us look like insensitive, inconsiderate, selfish villains.
Well, this is called manipulation in my book. And this doesn't work with me.
Incidentally, the other day I was telling a friend of mine (who's probably reading this entry now ^_^) how I dislike people telling me what to do, when and how. It doesn't matter who these people are. They could be my parents, my sister, my oldest friends ... I don't care.
If anyone sends me a disrespectful message, he/she must understand that it will go right to the bottom of my priority list. Trying to manipulate me so I reply faster and/or feel bad about myself will only result in an epic fail, as I don't fall into such traps.
Then again, I also have this thing that sometimes makes me take a long time to reply even to the friendliest messages. ^^UUUUUUU Of course, if someone sends me a nice email and still doesn't get a fast response, he/she is justly entitled to nag me until I send the due response out. ^__^

10:58 pm - She understood me and trusted me, though I'm only a stranger Today I'm happy and grateful. Why? Let me explain.
It's been several days since I caught the flu and it has naturally affected my productivity as a freelance writer. Now I have to catch up with several missed deadlines.
A few hours ago I had to contact a client who hired me to write a book review. I told her about my health issues and apologised for having missed the deadline (actually, it isn't over, but it will be within half an hour). I also asked for an extension. Fortunately, she was so understanding! She told me to take care of myself first and finish the job only when I'm really able to.
You may be thinking this is an old client who knows me well. But no, she isn't. She barely knows me and this is the first time she hires me; I'm still a stranger to her. As you can see, she has no reasons to trust me. I could be lying to her, couldn't I? Yet, she did trust me and sent me a kind reply. I will never forget this. (On the other hand, now I feel even worse for not having finished my task in time. T__T)
Sadly, we'll often find that our own friends and/or family don't trust us and don't understand us when we need it the most. I'm saying this because I know. Recent and not so recent experiences have shown me that sometimes (many times perhaps?) it is easier to get sympathy from strangers and acquaintances than from those who claim to care for us. BTW, I'm really not interested in this kind of caring, thank you very much.
And now I'm off for a nebulisation session. -__- music: "Cherish" - Kool & The Gang

11:13 pm - How not to contact me Last night Anita and I spent several hours chatting. Today she updated her LJ with a continuation of our chat. Incidentally, my update will be based on a topic we discussed yesterday too, though it's totally different from the one she picked.
I was telling Anita that I don't always read my LJ's friends page and that's true: I can spend weeks or even months in a row without visiting it. The fact that I've been posting regularly isn't a guarantee that I'll take a look at my f-list's news.
I know many people here at LJ post entries that in fact are messages to their friends. So it's time to post a warning here. Now that I think about it, I should have posted this warning a long, long, long time ago.
My dear friends, if there's anything you want me to read and you need to ensure I won't miss it, don't rely on LJ entries. Chances are your message will pass unnoticed. ^^U If I were you, I wouldn't use LJ comments and private messages either, because LJ don't always send me email alerts and I don't check my LJ inbox that often.
Sending me an email is definitely your best bet. The other contact methods are more or less risky. music: "Estrela" - Gilberto Gil

11:27 pm - I forgot I had considered 3 or more topics for today's entry. How could I forget all but one of them? ^^UUU I know I'm forgetful, but this is ridiculous.
And no, I won't be posting about the only topic I still remember. It would require a long entry, which I wouldn't have the time to pen. ^^U

03:01 pm - Rio 2016 Rio de Janeiro, my dear hometown, won the bid to host 2016 Summer Olympics. And I thought Chicago would take this one ...
I'm very happy, of course. I won't say we'll host a perfect event, although this is obviously what I hope for.
Now I can't miss the chance to market myself as a native Rio de Janeiro freelance writer. This may help me get some gigs. ;-)

07:58 pm - This is something I wanted for a long time, but now ... My 5928383873 fans (actually Aurore, Anita and Betty only :-P) "begged" for this, so I'm back with a new update! XDDD
Seriously, I can't promise I'll be updating everyday this month. However, your interest and encouragement really motivated me.
Onto today's topic:
It feels so weird when you realise that something you wanted for a long time doesn't look so good and necessary anymore. Now, this comment applies to many things in life, but I'm going to use my current feelings towards a former friend of mine as an example. ( Read more... )

01:58 pm - NaBloPoMo winner!

I didn't want to make any comments on this because I was afraid I'd jinx myself. Now that September is over, I can reveal that I was taking part in this month's NaBloPoMo, hence my daily updates.
September's suggested topic was "beautiful," but since it wasn't mandatory that I wrote about it, I didn't use it. ^^U
This was a funny month. Of course, I went through hard moments because of Abel's health issue. However, thanks to your support, it was easier to face this problem. *__*
I don't think I'll take part in NaBloPoMo's October edition. Updating every day is no easy task and I need to devote all the time I have to my writing career. Anyway, if I change my mind, you'll see me posting daily again. :-)
